Fasten off leaving a long tail. Weave in the yarn tail in front loops of the rest 6 stitches with large sewing needle, then pull to close the hole. Don’t cut off the yarn.
Now your crochet pumpkin is divided into 6 sections by lines made of front loops you left 6 times in each round. Insert the needle with yarn tail through all the loops of first line, moving from the top to the bottom of your pumpkin.
Give a gentle tug to make a slight indent. Insert the needle through the center of the pumpkin to the other side and pull the yarn tightly.
Repeat the steps five more times to create evenly spaced indents around the pumpkin. Tie off yarn and secure.
Stem:
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
Rnd 2: sc in all 6 st in back loops only [6]
Rnd 3-4: sc in all 6 st [6]
Rnd 5: (sc in next 2 st, inc) repeat 2 times [8]
Rnd 6: (sc in next 3 st, inc) repeat 2 times [10]
Rnd 7: (sc in next 4 st, inc) repeat 2 times [12]
Finish with sl st. Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing.
At this point you have a choice which side of your crochet pumpkin you want to show as the top and which to show as the bottom. Sew the stem in place on top of the pumpkin.
