Hi dear crocheters! How about making this cute owl in elegant dress? 🙂

Note that this free amigurumi pattern is designed for advanced level skill. It’s not recommended to try it if you’re a beginner. Easy loops!

Materials:

  • 100% acrylic yarn (50 g / 235 m) for dress and shoes
  • YarnArt JEANS yarn, colour 07 (beige)
  • YarnArt JEANS yarn, colour 01 (white)
  • Some yarn of yellow colour for the beak
  • White felt
  • 18 mm safety blue eyes
  • Eyelashes
  • Stuffing
  • 1.5 mm and 2 mm crochet hooks
  • Double pointed needles of 2 mm (optional)
  • Glue, scissors
  • Stitch marker (the toy is crocheted in a spiral)
  • Soft pastel to tint the eyes around the felt
  • Some plastic or cardboard for the soles

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
inc = increase
dec = decrease
dc inc = double crochet increase (two dc in one st)
dc dec = double crochet decrease (two dc together)

Shoes:
Rnd 1: 9 ch, inc in the 3rd chain from the hook, sc in the next 5 st, 4 sc in the last chain. On the opposite side sc in the next 5 st, inc, sl st in the first sc. [18] (don’t count sl st)
Rnd 2: 1 ch, 2 sc in the same st, inc, sc in the next 5 st, (inc) repeat 4 times, sc in the next 5 st, (inc) repeat 2 times, sl st [26]
Rnd 3: 1 ch, sc in the same stitch, sc in the next st, (inc) repeat 2 times, sc in the next 2 st, hdc in the next 2 st, dc in the next 3 st, (dc inc) repeat 5 times, dc in the next 3 st, hdc in the next 2 st, sc in the next 2 st, (sc inc) repeat 2 times, sc in the next st, sl st [35]
Rnd 4: 3 ch, dc in the next 2 st, (dc inc) repeat 2 times, dc in the next 10 st, (dc inc) repeat 6 times, dc in the next 10 st, (dc inc) repeat 2 times, dc in the next 2 st, sl st [44]
Cut the sole from plastic or cardboard and put it inside the shoe.
Rnd 5: sc in all 44 st in back loops only
Rnd 6-8: sc in all 44 st
Fasten off, cut the yarn and hide the end.

Let’s crochet edge (with white or other colour)
Row 1: Fold the shoe in half and count 10 sc from the middle. Insert the hook and crochet 20 sc in back loops only, turn.
Change to main shoe colour.
Row 2: Continue crocheting in rows: 2 ch, 1 dc in the second chain from the hook, (dc dec) repeat 9 times, turn
Row 3: 2 ch, 1 dc in the second chain from the hook, (dc dec) repeat 4 times, turn
Row 4: 2 ch, 4 dc together, fasten off.
Row 5: Join the yarn at the same place where you started the edge and crochet 12 sc around the toe, sl st. Fasten off, cut the yarn and hide the end. Don’t cut off and continue crocheting a shoe tongue.
Turn and crochet in rows:
Row 1: 3 ch, dc in the next 11 st starting from the second st on the hook in back loops only, turn
Row 2: 3 ch, dc in the next 11 st starting from the second st on the hook. Fasten off, cut the yarn and hide the end.

Owl in dress - free amigurumi pattern - shoes

Continue crocheting an owl’s leg joining beige yarn inside the shoe in the twelfth loop of 5th row and continue crocheting around.
Row 1: in back loops only: (sc in the next st, dec) repeat 11 times [22]
Row 2: sc in all 22 st
Row 3: sc in the next st, (dec) repeat 10 times, sc in the next st [12]
Row 4-20: sc in all 12 st
Cut the yarn of the first leg.
Crochet the upper part of the shoe.
Join the yarn of main colour to the rest loops and continue crocheting in rows (count the third stitch in the direction of edge and insert the hook):
Row 1: sc in the next 27 st, turn
Row 2: 1 ch, dec, sc in the next 23 st, dec, turn [25]
Row 3: 1 ch, sc in the next 25 st, turn
Row 4: 1 ch, dec, sc in the next 21 st, dec, turn [23]
Row 5: 1 ch, sc in all 23 st Fasten off. Cut the yarn and hide the end. Embroider laces.
Crochet the second leg in the same way, don’t cut the beige yarn.

Body:
Rnd 1: Don’t cut the yarn on the second leg and start joining. Attach the stitch marker and crochet 4 sc on the leg, 12 ch (let the legs to be a bit splay), join the chain to the second leg (to the place where you finished crocheting the leg).
12 sc along the leg, 12 sc along the chain, 8 sc along the leg (till the marker).
Rnd 2: 4 sc along the leg, 12 sc along the chain, sc in the next 32 st [48]
Rnd 3: sc in the next 3 st, inc, sc in the next 12 st, (sc in the next 3 st, inc) repeat 3 times, sc in the next 12 st, (sc in the next 3 st, inc) repeat 2 times [54]
Rnd 4-13: sc in all 54 st
Rnd 14: (sc in the next 25 st, dec) repeat 2 times [52]
Rnd 15: sc in all 52 st
Change to white yarn.
Rnd 16: (sc in the next 24 st, dec) repeat 2 times [50]
Rnd 17: sc in the next 50 st
Rnd 18: (sc in the next 8 st, dec) repeat 5 times [45]
Rnd 19: sc in all 45 st
Rnd 20: (sc in the next 7 st, dec) repeat 5 times [40]
Rnd 21: sc in the next 40 st
Cut the white yarn, but don’t fasten off (leave the tail, but don’t tie). After putting on the dress change the yarn to beige one and continue crocheting the head.

Wings:
Rnd 1: 6 sc in a magic ring
Rnd 2: sc in all 6 st
Rnd 3: (sc in the next st, inc) repeat 3 times [9]
Rnd 4: sc in all 9 st
Rnd 5: (sc in the next 2 st, inc) repeat 3 times [12]
Rnd 6: (sc in the next 3 st, inc) repeat 3 times [15]
Rnd 7-14: sc in all 15 st
Change to white yarn.
Rnd 15: sc in all 15 st
Rnd 16: sc in all 15 st in back loops only
Rnd 17-19: sc in all 15 st
Rnd 20: (sc in the next 3 st, dec) repeat 3 times [12]
Rnd 21: sc in all 12 st
Rnd 22: (sc in the next 2 st, dec) repeat 3 times [9]
Fold the wing in half and crochet 4 sc through both layers. Don’t stuff the wings.
Crochet 15 sc around Rnd 16 in the front loops. Sew the wings at Round 20 of the body.

Crocheted dress
Start crocheting the skirt:
Row 1: 72 ch, sc in the 8th stitch from the hook (this is the loop for the button), continue crocheting sc until the end of the row.
Row 2: Continue crocheting in rows. 2 ch and sc until the end of the row.
Row 3: 2 ch, sc until the end.
Row 4: 2 ch, sc until the end of the row, join in a circle.
Row 5: sc in each stitch around.
Row 6: 2 sc in each stitch.
Row 7: Change yarn colour, 3 ch, dc in the next 5 st, skip 2 st, (2 dc, 1 ch, 2 dc) in the next st, skip 2 stitches, dc in the next 5 st. Repeat till the end of the round.
Crochet next rounds in the same way until you get the desired length.
Let’s turn to crocheting the top of the dress and sleeves.
Rnd 1: Join the yarn to the top of the skirt and crochet (try on the dress and make arm-holes according to your owl)
2 ch, sc in the next 12 st, 15 ch, skip 9 st, sc in the next 20 st, 15 ch, skip 9 st, sc till the end of the round.
Rnd 2: 2 ch, sc till the end of the round.
Rnd 3: 2 ch, sc till the end of the round, 8 ch at the end to make one more loop for the button.

Sleeves:
At the place where you crocheted 15 ch for the arm-hole join the yarn of different colour to the first st and crochet 3 ch. (2 dc, 1 ch, 2 dc) in the third st from the hook, skip 2 ch, *crochet (2 dc, 1 ch, 2 dc) in the next ch, skip 2 ch*, repeat from * to * till the end of the arm-hole. Fasten off. Crochet the second sleeve in the same way.

Dress with knitting needles
Use the same yarn as for the chucks.
Cast on 64 loops and distribute on 4 needles: 12 loops (sleeve), 20 loops (front), 12 loops (sleeve), 20 loops (back)
Rows 1-5: 64 knit stitches
Row 6: 20 knit stitches, close 12 loops of the sleeve, 20 knit stitches, close 12 loops of the sleeve. Put the last loop on the next needle.
Crochet front and back parts separately (1 row of knit stitches, 1 row of purls)
Row 7: take off the selvage loop, 19 purls, selvage purl.
Row 8: take off the selvage loop, (2 knit stitches, inc) repeat 6 times, 1 knit stitch, selvage purl [27]
Row 9: take off the selvage loop, 25 purls, selvage purl.
Crochet the loops of another needle in the same way.

Fasten off on one needle, cut the yarn [53]
Row 10: 53 knit stitches, join in a circle. Distribute on four needles.
Rnd 11-18 (8 rounds): 53 knit stitches
Rnd 19: make 1 increase on each needle.
Rnd 20: 57 knit stitches
Rnd 21: make 1 increase on each needle.
Rnd 22: 61 knit stitches
Rnd 23: make 1 increase on each needle.
Rnd 24: 64 knit stitches
Rnd 25-31 (7 rounds) – (1 knit stitch, 1 purl) repeat till the end of the round.
Rnd 32: fasten off, but don’t tighten. Cut the yarn, hide the ends.

Take a needle with the same yarn and weave it in around the neck, but don’t tighten, keep it quite loose. Put the dress on the owl and tighten the neck. Cut the yarn, hide the ends.

Head:
Join beige yarn after putting on the dress and continue crocheting the head.
Rnd 22: (sc in the next st, inc) repeat 20 times [60]
Rnd 23: (sc in the next st, inc) repeat 5 times, sc in the next 17 st, (sc in the next st, inc) repeat 6 times, sc in the next 20 st, inc [72]
Rnd 24-34 (11 rounds): sc in all 72 st.
Rnd 35: sc in the next 5 st, dec, (sc in the next 10 st, dec) repeat 5 times, sc in the next 5 st [66]
Rnd 36-38: sc in all 66 st
Rnd 39: (sc in the next 9 st, dec) repeat 6 times [60]
Rnd 40: sc in the next 4 st, dec, (sc in the next 8 st, dec) repeat 5 times, sc in the next 4 st [54]
Rnd 41: (sc in the next 7 st, dec) repeat 6 times [48]
Rnd 42: sc in all 48 st
Rnd 43: (sc in the next 7 st, inc) repeat 6 times [54]
Rnd 44-46: sc in all 54 st Fasten off, cut the yarn. Sew at the top.
Take the same yarn and sew the ear a bit. Cut some yarn scraps, tie them at one end and insert them into the ear with the help of the hook. Sew till the second ear, insert the second brush and sew till the end. Cut the brushes evenly and make them fluffy with a needle.

Beak:
Rnd 1: 6 sc in a magic ring
Rnd 2: sc in all 6 st
Rnd 3: (sc in the next st, inc) repeat 3 times [9]
Rnd 4: sc in all 9 st. Fasten off. Leave a tail for sewing.

Decorate the face:
Cut two white felt ovals, tint them at the edges and glue in the middle of the face. Sew the beak between the eyes, stuff it a little before sewing. Don’t forget to glue eyelashes.

Bow:
You can crochet the bow (there are lots of patterns in the net) or use veiling for the bow. Take a small piece, fold it in a rectangular shape. Hide all the cuts inside. Wind in the middle with the yarn and sew to the owl’s ear.
Your amigurumi owl is finished!

  1. I don’t understand the pattern for the shoes. After chaining 9, does the first stitch go in the 3rd from the hook with an increase? Can someone clarify this for me, please?
