Give your little one something to gnaw on with this adorable crochet lion rattle. It is a great way for your baby to experience different textures, colors and sounds. Follow our step-by-step instructions below!
One important note before you start โ crochet toys with small plastic parts should not be given to children under the age of 3! We strongly recommend embroidering eyes instead of using plastic eyes. Better safe than sorry!
Supplies:
- Yarnart Jeans (55% cotton, 45% acrylic; 160 m / 50 g) in light brown, dark brown, beige, light yellow and neon yellow colors
- 2.0 mm crochet hook
- Brown embroidery floss
- Reliable safety eyes (7-8 mm) or black floss for eye embroidering
- Fiberfill for stuffing
- Little plastic egg/container (like Kinder Surprise egg) with beads
- Scissors and tapestry needle
Skill level: easy
The size of finished crochet rattle is about 12-13 cm (5″).

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
st = stitch
sc = single crochet
inc = increase (2 sc in one st)
dec = decrease (2 sc together)
sl st = slip stitch
(..) = repeat the space in brackets the given number of times
[..] = total number of stitches
This crochet pattern describes the rattle without a wooden ring. If you want to use a wooden ring, crochet the base rattle parts (ring and semi-ring) around it, beginning with the ring and finishing with the semi-ring.
Semi-ring:
Crochet 15 ch and join with sl st to make a circle. Start each round with 1 ch and finish with sl st. Continue crocheting around about 18 rounds. Crochet sc around the edges of the semi-ring with light yellow yarn. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Ring:
Crochet 12 ch and join with sl st to make a circle. Continue crocheting around in spiral about 45-46 rounds. Now you have a cylinder. Insert it in the semi-ring, then join the ends of the cylinder with sewing needle to form a ring (donโt forget to stuff with fiberfill). Fasten off and weave in the end. Hide the seam shifting the semi-ring.

Crochet in continuous rounds with light brown yarn.

Hi ๐ You can use online versions of the patterns for free on our website and mobile app. PDF version itself is not free. Because it takes a lot of time to prepare the patterns. So, in spite of this fact all people who canโt pay for PDF patterns can view them on the website and make wonderful toys. Hope for your understanding ๐
