To crochet these amigurumi kangaroos you need:
- Fine yarn Yarnart Jeans (160 m / 50 g; 55% cotton, 45% acrylic)
- 2.5 mm and 3.5 mm crochet hooks by Tulip
- 8 mm safety eyes for mother kangaroo
- Brown and black embroidery threads
- Some white felt for eyes
- Polyester fiberfill
- Scissors and sewing needle
The size of finished mother kangaroo is about 15 cm (5.9″). You can make kangaroos in different sizes, if you use thicker or thinner yarn and suitable hooks.

Free Crochet Pattern
Abbreviations:
ch = chain
st = stitch
sc = single crochet
inc = increase (2 sc in one stitch)
dec = decrease (2 sc together)
sl st = slip stitch
dc = double crochet
hdc = half double crochet
(..) = repeat the instructions in brackets the given number of times
[..] = total number of stitches
Crochet in continuous rounds, unless otherwise specified. Mark the beginning of each round with a stitch marker.
Cheeks (make 2):
Crochet with pink yarn.
Rnd 1: 6 hdc in magic ring [6]
Finish with sl st. Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing.
Head:
Begin crocheting with beige yarn. Stitch marker is in the middle of the chin.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
Rnd 2: (inc) repeat 6 times [12]
Rnd 3: (sc in next st, inc) repeat 6 times [18]
Rnd 4: (sc in next 2 st, inc) repeat 6 times [24]
Rnd 5: (sc in next 3 st, inc) repeat 6 times [30]
Change to brown yarn.
Rnd 6: (sc in next 4 st, inc) repeat 6 times [36]
Rnd 7-10: sc in all 36 st [36]
Rnd 11: (sc in next 11 st, inc) repeat 3 times [39]
Rnd 12: sc in all 39 st [39]
Rnd 13: (sc in next 12 st, inc) repeat 3 times [42]
Rnd 14: (sc in next 13 st, inc) repeat 3 times [45]
Rnd 15: (sc in next 14 st, inc) repeat 3 times [48]
Rnd 16: (sc in next 7 st, inc) repeat 6 times [54]
Rnd 17: (sc in next 8 st, inc) repeat 6 times [60]
Rnd 18-22: sc in all 60 st [60]
Cut out eye whites from a piece of felt. Make small holes in the middle of whites and insert safety eyes. Attach eyes between Rnd 14 and Rnd 15 at the distance of 10 stitches in between them.
Embroider nose with brown thread like in the photo below. Sew on the cheeks between Rnd 13 and Rnd 18.
Rnd 23: (sc in next 8 st, dec) repeat 6 times [54]
Rnd 24: (sc in next 7 st, dec) repeat 6 times [48]
Rnd 25: (sc in next 6 st, dec) repeat 6 times [42]
Rnd 26: (sc in next 5 st, dec) repeat 6 times [36]
Rnd 27: (sc in next 4 st, dec) repeat 6 times [30]
Stuff.
Rnd 28: (sc in next 3 st, dec) repeat 6 times [24]
Rnd 29: (sc in next 2 st, dec) repeat 6 times [18]
Add more stuffing.
Rnd 30: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 6 times [12]
Rnd 31: (dec) repeat 6 times [6]
Fasten off leaving a small tail. Pass the yarn end through the front loops of the rest 6 stitches with your hook or sewing needle and pull to close the hole. Weave in the end.
Ears:
Inner ears (make 2):
Crochet 11 ch with beige yarn. Continue working in turning rows, beginning from 2nd ch from hook.
Row 1: sc in next 10 st [10]
Row 2-3: 1 ch, sc in next 10 st [10]
Row 4: 1 ch, dec, sc in next 6 st, dec [8]
Row 5: 1 ch, sc in next 8 st [8]
Row 6: 1 ch, dec, sc in next 4 st, dec [6]
Row 7: 1 ch, sc in next 6 st [6]
Row 8: 1 ch, dec, sc in next 2 st, dec [4]
Row 9: 1 ch, sc in next 4 st [4]
Row 10: 1 ch, (dec) repeat 2 times [2]
Row 11: 1 ch, sc in next 2 st [2]

What I can`t understand,is it says free but we can`t download it to use, as a pensioner I can`t buy patterns, but love to crochet, learning to do Amigurumi now at 75 years . I have great grandchildren who love animals.
Or must I stay online and read from my laptop or phone.
