These fancy horses are crocheted in uncommon way – as one part. You need to sew only ears. The height of finished crochet horse is approximately 14 cm. This toy required some skills, so if you’re just a beginner you’d better try another amigurumi toys at first 🙂

To create a crochet horse you’ll need:

  • Yarn (acrylic, cotton, semi-cotton or semi-woolen) – 250 m / 100 g
  • 2.25 mm crochet hook
  • Stuffing
  • Sewing needle, scissors
  • A pair of beads for eyes
  • Felting wool (optional)
  • Any decorations you want

Skill level: intermediate

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
tr = treble crochet
inc = increase (2 sc in one stitch)
dec = decrease (two sc together) (I do this in front loops only)
repeat 6 times – repeat the given number of times
[ ] = the total number of stitches in the round

Crochet in a spiral without slip stitches at the end of each round.

Start crocheting with a head.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in a magic ring.
Rnd 2: (inc) repeat 6 times [12]
Rnd 3: (inc, sc in the next st) repeat 6 times [18]
Rnd 4: (inc, sc in the next 2 st) repeat 6 times [24]
Rnd 5: (inc, sc in the next 3 st) repeat 6 times [30]
Rnd 6-7: sc in all 30 st [30]
Rnd 8: (inc, sc in the next 4 st) repeat 6 times [36]
Rnd 9-10: sc in all 36 st [36]
Rnd 11: (inc, sc in the next 5 st) repeat 6 times [42]
Rnd 12: sc in all 42 st [42]

Crochet the muzzle separately.
Rnd 13: 4 ch, skip 18 st, sc in the 19th st, sc in the next 23 st till the end of the round, 4 sc in the chain [28]

Amigurumi crochet horse pattern - head

Rnd 14: sc in all 28 st [28]
Rnd 15: sc in the next 11 st, dec, sc in the next 15 st [27]
Rnd 16: sc in all 27 st [27]
Rnd 17: sc in the next 25 st, dec [26]
Rnd 18: sc in all 26 st [26]
Rnd 19: (sc in the next 11 st, dec) repeat 2 times [24]
Rnd 20-21: sc in all 24 st [24]
Rnd 22: (sc in the next 2 st, dec) repeat 6 times [18]
Rnd 23: (sc in the next 1 st, dec) repeat 6 times [12]
Rnd 24: (dec) repeat 6 times [6], sl st
Weave the tail in the needle and draw up the hole and weave in the end.
Stuff not very tightly (the horse shouldn’t be too plump in the end) through the opening in the neck. Use a chopstick while stuffing.

    I think the directions on the legs is very unclear. I am completely stuck. It does not tell you where to begin and which leg you are working on. Are you working in the round? Are you supposed to be going around both front legs or just one? Count 12 stitches back from beginning where? HELP! I don’t want to abandon this when I have come this far.

    The leg instructions make absolutely no sense. Since they are not numbered, it is difficult for me to tell you where I am stuck. Suffice it to say that the entire leg part is one mumble jumble. I have been crocheting since I was 7 years old. I’m 65, so I am no newby to the craft.

    The horse appears to lose it’s width once you put the legs on. The legs seem to be situated front to back rather than side by side. Then as you close the belly, the legs seem to be on a horizontal line. Is that correct? Then the second leg seems to go behind the first leg rather than along side it. Is that correct?
