This wonderfully crocheted Alpine Cow is all about having a good time and making everyone happy! It can’t solve all of your problems, do your chores, or make your homework disappear but it can make all of those things a lot more fun than they would be without a cheerful companion by your side. To crochet the Alpine Cow you need:
- 4 ply semi-cotton yarn Yarnart Jeans (160 m / 50 g) in white, black, light pink and light gray colors
- 2 mm crochet hook
- 8 mm safety eyes or button eyes
- Pink embroidery floss for nostrils
- Satin ribbon and a small bell
- Fiberfill for stuffing
- Scissors and sewing needle

The approximate size of finished crochet cow is 16 cm (6.3″) when sitting.

ch = chain

inc = increase (2 sc in one st)
dec = decrease (2 sc together)

Horns (make 2):
Crochet with light gray yarn.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
Rnd 2-6: sc in all 6 st [6]
Finish with sl st. Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing. Stuff with fiberfill.
Ears (make 2):
Make first ear in white color and the second one in light pink.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
Rnd 2: (inc, sc in next st) repeat 3 times [9]
Rnd 3: sc in all 9 st [9]
Rnd 4: (inc, sc in next 2 st) repeat 3 times [12]

Head:
Crochet with light pink yarn. Stuff as you go.

Legs (make 2):
Crochet with black yarn.
Rnd 1: 8 sc in magic ring [8]
Rnd 2: (inc) repeat 8 times [16]
Rnd 3: (inc, sc in next st) repeat 8 times [24]
Rnd 4-10: sc in all 24 st [24]
Rnd 11: (dec, sc in next 2 st) repeat 6 times [18]
Change to white yarn.
Rnd 12-34: sc in all 18 st [18]
Fasten off leaving a tail. Stuff only the bottom part of the leg. Sew up the hole.
Spots (make 3):
Crochet 5 ch with black yarn. Continue working around foundation chain, beginning from the 2nd ch from your hook.
Rnd 1: sc in next 3 st, inc, turn, sc in next 3 st [8]
Rnd 2: (inc) repeat 8 times [16]
Rnd 3: inc, sc in next 7 st, inc, sc in next 7 st [18]
Finish with sl st. Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing.
Udder:
Crochet with light pink yarn.
The udder consists of 4 nipples which are crocheted separately, and then joined together.
Nipple (make 4):
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
Rnd 2: (inc) repeat 6 times [12]
Rnd 3-4: sc in all 12 st [12]
Rnd 5: (dec, sc in next 2 st) repeat 3 times [9]
Finish with sl st. Fasten off and weave in the end.
Main part of the udder:
Rnd 1: 8 sc in magic ring [8]
Now we’re going to join nipples. Crochet as follows:
Rnd 2: sc in next 9 st of the 1st nipple, sc in next 2 st of the main part, sc in next 9 st of the 2nd nipple, sc in next 2 st of the main part, sc in next 9 st of the 3rd nipple, sc in next 2 st of the main part, sc in next 9 st of the 4th nipple, sc in next 2 st of the main part [44]
Rnd 3: (sc in next 9 st, dec) repeat 4 times [40]
Rnd 4: sc in next 4 st, inc, (sc in next 9 st, inc) repeat 3 times, sc in next 5 st [44]
Rnd 5: sc in all 44 st [44]
Rnd 6: (sc in next 10 st, inc) repeat 4 times [48]
Finish with sl st. Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing. Stuff the nipples.
Assembly:
1. Embroider nostrils at Rnd 10 at the distance of 11 stitches in between them. Make small indents while embroidering.
2. Embroider a smile like a semi-circle between Rnd 5 and Rnd 6 using backstitch technique.
3. Sew on the horns in the corners of the head top.
4. Sew on the ears near the horns (approximately at Rnds 20-23).
5. Sew on the spots where you like.
6. Sew the udder on the belly between Rnd 6 and Rnd 20 of the body.
7. Sew the legs to the bottom part of the body (between Rnd 2 and Rnd 9).
8. Sew the arms at the sides of the body (between Rnd 32 and Rnd 33).
9. Making the tail: cut the yarn into 6 pieces and insert them between Rnd 9 and Rnd 10 of the body. Braid them leaving a small brush at the end.
10. Sew the head to the body, aligning the body seam and Rnds 19-20 of the head. Make additional stitches at the level of Rnd 8 of the head to attach it to the body securely.
11. Put on the bell with satin ribbon and tie a bow on the neck.
